The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), might meet this week with the Federal government concerning the ongoing strike. It is no longer news that the Union has been strike, dated August 14, 2017. It was learnt on Sunday, that the ASUU meeting on Saturday was to decide, whether the strike should be suspended based on the offers, made by the government. A reliable source speaking to Newsmen, said the Union Might meet the government before this week runs out, for further negotiations before the strike is called off. Efforts to reach the Union President,  Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi proved abortive, as he did not respond the calls and SMS to his phone. It was also gathered that the N23 bn promised by the government to the Union, would not be beneficial to Lectures who were employed after 2010, as it was based on Earned Academic Allowance- an allowance one must have worked for, before it can be earned. The Nine Zones of ASUU would have a crucial meeting on Monday 28 August,2017 to brief

WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING JAMB 2017 CUT OFF MARKS - ASUU, VCS, NANS

Image
The Vice-chancellors and the Academic Staff Union of Universities have said that they are not going to accept the cut off marks set by JAMB. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) earlier announced the cut off mark for Universities as 120 and 100 for Polytechnics. The Vice-Chancellors said that this would lower the admission standard and add no value to the nations University system. The Vice-Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Prof. Idowu Olayinka stated that the institute would not admit any one who scored 120 in the just concluded Utme. But he recommended the Federal Government on the decision to re introduce the Post UTME. NANS President, Chinonso Obadiah said if JAMB refuses to comply, the decision would be resisted. ASUU also condemned this action referring to it as a sad policy, as it would destroy the standard of Nigerian Public Universities.
